Ibrahim Sannie Daara, former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, has raised concerns about the quality of players in the current Black Stars squad.

He believes the team is largely made up of average players, with only a few exceptions.

The recent decline of the Black Stars has sparked public outcries, with fans demanding reforms within the technical setup.

In response, the Ghana Football Association appointed a new technical team as well as a management committee.

However, offering a different perspective, Sannie Daara stated in an interview with Sporty FM that the presence of average players has been a major factor in the Black Stars‘ struggles.

The team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after back-to-back group-stage eliminations in 2021 and 2023.

“Apart from [Mohammed] Kudus, Jordan Ayew, and [Thomas] Partey, most of the Black Stars players are average,” he said.

The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, level on nine points with group leaders, Comoros.

With a spot at the 2026 World Cup up for grabs, the newly-appointed technical team will now shift focus to the upcoming qualifiers in March 2025.
