Former manager of Accra Hearts of Oak, Samuel Boadu, has broken his silence on his unexpected departure from the club.

Despite leading the team to an FA Cup victory, Boadu was relieved of his duties in September 2022.

After struggling to replicate the form that had seen him win the Ghana Premier League title, Hearts of Oak sought a fresh start and a new direction to achieve their broader goals.

Boadu led Hearts to five titles in just 18 months.

However, in an interview on the BKB Show, Boadu claimed that the lack of appreciation for his achievements made it increasingly difficult for him to continue.

With the weight of the situation becoming unbearable, he decided to step away to bring peace to both the club and its leadership.

“Honestly, I can’t fully explain why I left. Maybe the bad run influenced some opinions, but even then, I had just won the FA Cup. Some members of management didn’t appreciate what I achieved. It became a heavy burden. So, to allow peace for Togbe and the club, I decided to step aside,” he said.

Boadu, however, was quick to acknowledge the special bond he shared with the Board Chairman of the club, Togbe Afede XIV.

“I often mentioned Togbe’s name after matches, and many didn’t understand why. He’s more like a father and brother to me. His guidance went beyond football; he advised me on personal matters too. Togbe is a good man. If it were just him at Hearts, I would have stayed for 50 years,” he added.

Boadu has since taken charge of Berekum Chelsea, leading them to a spot in the 2024/25 FA Cup semi-finals.
