L-R: Football administrator, Sammy Anim Addo and Goldbod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi

President of Young Apostles FC, Sammy Anim Addo, has defended the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, amid a social media uproar over a viral video showing him gifting US dollars to controversial preacher Nana Agradaa.

Recently, in a video shared on X , Sammy Gyamfi was seen posing for a photo beside his Range Rover with Nana Agradaa, who had her arm around him.

The video showed him opening the back door of the vehicle and counting several dollar notes, reportedly in response to a comment made by Agradaa.

This footage has since sparked massive backlash, with many criticising Sammy Gyamfi for giving money to Agradaa, an individual often embroiled in controversy.

However, sharing his thoughts on this, Anim Addo believes the criticisms are unjustified.

“Why this rush to vilify and crucify such a brilliant young politician?

“I believe Sammy’s gesture to that woman wasn’t for clout, acted with a good heart, simply wanting to show his kindness. Though Agradaa can’t be categorised as needy, she clearly had her own motives,” he said.

According to Anim Addo, public trust issues surrounding politicians often lead to even well-meaning actions being harshly judged, especially when they involve personalities like Nana Agradaa.

“Public perception of politicians is shaped by broader trust issues. Even well-intentioned acts can be scrutinised when they involve controversial figures like Agradaa. Sammy, as a public figure, might have underestimated how his actions could be weaponised, especially in today’s hyper-connected social media era,” he said.

He also condemned the act of filming the moment, calling it a breach of privacy, and urged the public to move on from the incident.

“The blogger filming inside the car? That’s a blatant invasion of privacy. Who hasn’t kept some money in their car to help someone on the spot? Let’s be real, nobody’s perfect. We should accept his apology and move on, not blow this out of proportion,” he said.
