The Nsenkyire Sports Arena will be the action spot on Sunday when host Samartex FC welcome Ghana Premier League (GPL) leaders, Medeama SC, in a Matchday 23 game that is expected to produce a lot of fireworks.
The game will test Medeama’s resolve as the matches come thick and fast with chasers narrowing the gap on them following last week’s home draw against Aduana FC at the TnA Park in Tarkwa.
With Hearts of Oak and Gold stars earning valuable points, another slip could spell doom for the Tarkwa based side and spark a wave of pressure that could jeopardise their title charge.
But Samartex would come as easy prey. In front of their home fans, the target would be to hand them one of the ‘sweetest’ victories in the competition but bringing down a giant.
Medeama have shown great character so far in the competition, dealing with a number of favourites including Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko who they earned points from.
But just as they struggled against Aduana, they may have it tough again as they become a hard target for every opposition.
However, they have what it takes to silence the home team to return to winning ways to preserve their position. Failure to do that would spell doom.
At the University of Ghana Stadium, on Sunday, Hearts of Oak would have to prove to all that their victory over Kotoko was no fluke when they oblige struggling Berekum Chelsea.
Last Sunday’s feat over Kotoko catapulted them to the upper ranks of the table, specifically in the second position and trailing the leaders by five points.
A win would surely narrow that gap in case Medeama fail to deliver. That calculation would hugely boost the confidence of the Phobians and would aim to go all out to record a double over Chelsea side.
They came out 2-0 victors in the first leg in Berekum; therefore, the fans call for a winner at all cost must not be too much on Coach Didi Dramani.
For Asante Kotoko, whose pride and self-esteem were hurt badly by the defeat to the Phobians last week, they must put that disappointment behind them as they engage Young Apostles at the Nsenkyire Park.
In other game, Dreams FC will face Nations FC at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Basake Holy Stars come against Swedru All Blacks at the AAK II Sports Arena, Karela United host Eleven Wonders at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Kpando Heart of Lions will clash with Bibiani Gold Stars at the Kpando Stadium, while Aduana FC host Hohoe United at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa.
