The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has backed popular comedian DKB over complaints on social media about fast-depleting data packages by networks.
DKB had previously expressed concerns over his data bundle depleting faster than expected. After his complaint triggered an NCA investigation, DKB later issued an apology and admitted that hidden app usage had caused the rapid data loss.
However, the comedian was dragged on social media, with many accusing him of being partisan.
But sharing his thoughts on this issue, Sam George, speaking at the Government Accountability Series on August 1, 2025, credited user behaviour as the real driver behind the complaints.
“Every single one of the complaints that have been referred to the team has been investigated. And all of them have proven that it is user settings and user behaviours that have affected the use of their data and that there has been no price tampering,” he said.
He further recounted cases where users, including DKB had reported rapid data depletion.
“When we did the investigation, they realised that the person used it to watch and stream videos. And that’s why the data he was expecting to keep was depleted.
“I’m sure you all saw the one by DKB when he complained about his data, and subsequently he realised that it was from his own user behaviour,” he said.
Sam George further stated that his outfit will take action against any cases of malpractice by any telecommunications company.
“Let me reiterate, I will not hesitate to deal decisively as minister with any telecom company that faults or alters the pricing that is approved by the NCA.
“But unless there is evidence of the same, you cannot punish somebody just because people are making a claim that is not backed by evidence,” he said.
