Senegalese star, Sadio Mane has paid tribute to his former teammate Mohammed Salah and the Egyptian national team after their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash.
The Terenga Lions of Senegal on Wednesday, January 14, 2025, ended the hopes of the Pharaohs of Egypt of reaching the AFCON final for the 14th time in their history after beating them 1-0.
After a keenly contested game at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tanger, Sadio Mane’s 78th minute strike guaranteed Senegal’s place in the final for the 4th time in history.
“We respect Egypt for what they have done on the continent as the best team in Africa.”
“Also to Mohammed Salah because he is one of the best players in the world who gives everything for his team but unfortunately they couldn’t win and that is part of the game,” Sadio Mane said while reacting to their victory over the Pharaohs.
Sadio Mane also hinted that the final on Sunday, January 18, 2026, against the Atlas Lions of Morocco at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat might be his last game in the Africa Cup of Nations.
