Paris Saint Germain are champions of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup
French giants, Paris Saint Germain have been crowned champions of the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup after beating Brazilian side Flamengo on penalties.
PSG despite taking the lead in the first half were denied victory in regulation time after Jorginho scored to cancel Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s goal in the 30th minute.
The French giants went ahead to win the trophy after beating the Brazilians 2-1 in the penalty shoutouts.
While fans hail PSG for joining Barcelona and Bayern Munich as only clubs to claim six trophies in a single year, others have commended goalkeeper Matvei Safonov for his exceptional performance in the shoutouts.
The Russian goalkeeper saved 4 penalties in the shootouts to win the 6th trophy in 2025 for PSG.
Matvei Safonov denied Saul Niguez, Pedro, Leo Pereira and Luiz Araujo while Vitinha and Nuno Mendes scored to win the game for PSG.

Before Matvei Safonov saved four penalties for PSG against Flamengo, the goalkeeper trainer gave him a red towel to study each of Flamengo’s penalty takers.
He never left the towel, studied it like an exam and stood tall.
