President of Russia, VladImir Putin President of Russia, VladImir Putin

Russia has accused the United States of carrying out biological research in Ghana, Djibouti, Kenya, and Nigeria that could be applied to biowarfare.

Russia claims the United States is specifically tracking infectious diseases, isolating microorganisms, and researching disease outbreaks.

DW Africa released a Facebook post on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, revealing the accusations, according to a publication by 3news.com.

Furthermore, it has been stated that the United States has set up a military medical facility in Kenya to track the spread of infectious diseases throughout Central Africa. Ten experts from the US Department of Defense worked in a joint medical research center and military medical laboratory established in Nigeria in 2024.

Additionally, according to Alexey Shevtsov, deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, the United States is creating biological weapons, including ones that target certain ethnic groups.

The accusations follow Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which has already caused tensions in U.S.-Russian ties.

Even though the two countries have common interests in areas like nuclear safety, counterterrorism, and addressing global health issues, their relationship has grown more hostile in recent years.

Adding to the growing geopolitical tensions between the two nations, the United States has yet to respond to the most recent accusations.

Nonetheless, the United States has continuously refuted these charges, claiming they lack evidence. The United States insists that it conducts research in Africa only for public health.
