A runaway dog caused rush hour chaos in Boston after wandering onto the road of a busy tunnel.

Surveillance footage from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation showed a black and white pup frolicking toward oncoming traffic on the left shoulder of the Ted Williams Tunnel Thursday morning.

As multiple cars and trucks sped by, narrowly missing the dog as they passed, the furry friend seemed completely unphased by the danger.

Massachusetts police finally arrived and attempted to coax the animal out of the road and into the back seat of a police cruiser.

Six state police vehicles were parked in the middle of the interstate in a staggering formation to assist with the unusually adorable emergency.

Traffic was momentarily completely stopped thanks to the dog’s shenanigans.

Video showed several civilian cars stopped behind the flashing police lights as an officer chased the dog around the road.

Even a school bus was paused on its journey.

A state trooper was finally able to corral the stray into the back seat of his car.

The dog did not appear to have a collar.

According to Humane World for Animals, stopping for a stray in the road can be dangerous, so it’s important to proceed cautiously.

If you see a dog like the one prancing Boston’s roadways, turn on hazard lights and pull over completely to the side of the road.

Asses if the animal looks dangerous or aggressive before attempting to restrain it and lure it into a vehicle.

Drivers that are unable to safely rescue a stray due to safety concerns should call local officials to assist the animal instead.

Police or animal control can help get the wanderer to safety whether or not it has an identification tag.

It’s unclear who called Massachusetts police for assistance with the runaway rover in the Ted Williams Tunnel.

The Ted Williams Tunnel is a busy major highway tunnel that connects South Boston to East Boston

The tunnel is one of three major highway tunnels built in conjunction with the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, according to Mass.gov.

It is 1.6 miles long and serves as a passageway for thousands of commuters. The tunnel connects southern and eastern Boston.

Logan International Airport sits near the east entrance.

Animal lovers on social media commended state police for their rescue effort.

‘Wow that’s one brave pup!’ said one commenter under an X post of the incident.

‘Kudos to the state police for rescuing the little adventurer.’
