Ghanaian midfielder Ronald Donkor played a key role in the New York Red Bulls’ historic victory as they secured their first-ever Eastern Conference Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

The 20-year-old came off the bench to help his side edge Orlando City 1-0, earning the Red Bulls a spot in the 2024 MLS Cup final after a stellar playoff run.

Defender Andres Reyes sealed the win with a decisive header just two minutes into the second half. Reyes connected with John Tolkin’s perfectly delivered cross from a set piece, punishing Orlando City’s defensive lapse.

Donkor, who has been a standout performer for the Red Bulls this season, has made 20 appearances since his promotion to the senior team, contributing significantly to their impressive campaign.

With the Eastern Conference title in hand, the Red Bulls will now prepare to face LA Galaxy in the 2024 MLS Cup final on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Dignity Health Sports Park, aiming to cap off their season with the ultimate prize.
