Roger Barnor is the second vice president of the Ghana Boxing Authority
According to JoySports reports on July 2, 2025, the second vice president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Roger Barnor, has officially taken over as acting president following Abraham Kotei Neequaye’s resignation.
Neequaye formally tendered in his resignation on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, citing personal reasons and alleged unresolved tensions with the Sports Minister and National Sports Authority Director General.
His resignation officially took effect on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Barnor, a retired boxing referee, assumes the role in accordance with the GBA’s constitution.
This transition was necessitated by the vacant first vice president position, previously held by Rabon Dodoo, who resigned in 2023 due to “philosophical differences” with the then-president.
Both Rabon Dodoo and prominent businessman and boxing promoter Ivan Bruce Cudjoe have expressed strong interest in contesting the presidency in the upcoming elective congress.
The GBA is set to hold its much-anticipated Elective Congress on July 12, 2025, at the Mudor Conference Hall within the Trust Sports Emporium (Bukom Boxing Arena).
Neequaye had also filed to contest for the presidency prior to his resignation.
Sources indicate that the GBA has not held an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in five years, despite its constitution requiring one annually.
The Ministry for Sports and Recreation, through the National Sports Authority, has insisted on an AGM being held before the elective congress.
A proposal to hold both the AGM and the elective congress on the same day is reportedly being considered to address this.
Barnor’s immediate task as acting president will be to ensure a smooth transition and prepare the ground for the upcoming elections, which are expected to usher in new leadership for Ghana boxing.
