Ghanaian defender Richard Ofori, who plays for Ethnikos Achnas in Cyprus, has been handed a two-match ban and fined for making an obscene gesture during a match against AEK Larnaca two weeks ago.

Ofori, 24, used a “f**k you” gesture during the heated encounter, prompting disciplinary action from the league authorities.

The match ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw. Achnas took an early lead through Spanish midfielder Pablo Gonzalez in the 10th minute, only for AEK to equalize six minutes later with a goal from Aitor Cantalapiedra.

Argentinian forward Enzo Cabrera put AEK ahead in the 37th minute, but Ethnikos salvaged a point when Julian Bonetto converted a penalty just 10 minutes from time.

Ofori joined Ethnikos Achnas this summer from Nea Salamis and has made 15 league appearances, scoring once this season.

The ban means the Ghanaian will miss two crucial fixtures as Ethnikos fights to improve its position in the league standings.

This incident highlights the intensity and pressure of football competitions in Cyprus, where emotions can sometimes get the better of players.
