Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President John Dramani Mahama’s spokesperson and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has defended the government’s decision to cancel appointments made after December 7 by pointing to anomalies in the hiring procedures.

This comes after Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, urged President Mahama to revoke the nominations on Tuesday, February 18.

“Let me also put it on record that this action has been taken not because of a perception or a belief that they were NPP,” Kwakye Ofosu said in an address to reporters in Accra on Wednesday, February 19. This is because we are aware that there were anomalies in the hiring procedures.

He cited cases in which people received backdated letters to give the false impression that they had been employed long before the elections, while others did not undergo interviews or even submit application letters expressing interest in the positions.

Emphasizing that these irregularities could not continue, Kwakye Ofosu promised that the government will hold new hiring procedures that would be accessible to all Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliations.

“In due course, government will do recruitment and it will be open to all Ghanaians irrespective of political colouration. Indeed, your party identity will not be required. You will not be asked to show whether you’re NPP or NDC when that comes, but we will do it in a regular manner,” he clarified.

He further reminded people who had lost their jobs that they would still be able to reapply and follow the proper procedures.

“So even those who have had their employment revoked will still have the opportunity to reapply and go through due process,” Kwakye Ofosu added.
