Retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe, has passed away at 74 after a brief illness.

Justice Gbadegbe was known for his strict adherence to procedure and his emphasis on ethical standards in the legal profession. His colleagues praised him for his dedication and commitment to the judiciary. Notably, he was one of nine judges who handled Ghana’s 2012/2013 election petition.

Born on December 8, 1950, Justice Gbadegbe had a distinguished career spanning over three decades:

    – Supreme Court Judge (2009-2020): He served on the highest court of the land for 11 years, bringing his vast experience and commitment to the judiciary.

    – Justice of Appeal (1999-2009): Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, he served on the Court of Appeal for a decade.

    – High Court Judge (1989-1999): He began his judicial career as a High Court judge, serving for 10 years.

During his retirement ceremony in December 2020, Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah lauded Justice Gbadegbe for his service, describing him as “an asset and an unquenchable fire” in the justice delivery system. His legacy will be remembered for years to come.
