Retired Ghana Air Force Officer, Wing Commander Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, has questioned claims that the deadly military helicopter crash on its way from Accra to Obuasi occurred due to the rotor hitting a tree.

In a somber remark, Sogbodjor stated, *“Ghana doesn’t have trees reaching 1,000 or 2,000 feet in height. The flight path between Accra and Obuasi is well-documented. The real question is what caused the helicopter to descend so low that its rotor could strike a tree.”*

The retired officer emphasized the need to move past assumptions and instead determine the true cause of the accident. He noted that the route’s terrain is well-known to seasoned pilots, making such an incident unlikely unless other factors were involved.

Sogbodjor called for a comprehensive and impartial investigation, urging aviation officials and the Ghana Armed Forces to explore all possibilities, including mechanical issues, pilot error, and adverse weather conditions during the flight.

“Our servicemen and women’s lives are invaluable. Finding the truth is the least we owe them and their grieving families,” he stressed.

The crash, which killed eight people, has plunged the nation into mourning and sparked urgent concerns over military aviation safety measures.
