Some Ghanaian football fans have urged Andre Dede Ayew to end his stint with the Black Stars to safeguard his reputation with the team.

These individuals believe that Dede Ayew has performed brilliantly for the national team during his peak, which led to him being given the captaincy.

However, with his age and dip in performance, it would be wise for Dede to retire from the national team.

Speaking to Benjamin Sackey during the Sports Debate show aired on GhanaWeb TV, one fan commented, “If I were Dede Ayew, I would have resigned from the team because things are not going well for the team since Kurt Okraku took over as GFA President. We perform poorly in AFCON and even qualifiers, so he should retire to avoid any disgrace.”

Another individual urged Ayew to retire from the national team, stating “At this point, it would be good for Dede if he leaves the Black Stars. The coach [Otto Addo] made it clear that he is not part of his plans, so even if he is forced to join the team, he will not be used by the coach. That’s why he even gave the captaincy to another player. Most of his group mates, like Agyemang-Badu and others, have retired, so he should follow suit.”

However, one football fan asserted that with the Black Stars struggling to pick wins in matches, Dede Ayew’s experience would be valuable to the team.

“In everything, we have seniors and experience. When Dede Ayew plays for even a few minutes, is more impactful than the other players in the same position. I won’t take anything away from him,” the fan said.

In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Dede Ayew made it clear that he has no intention of retiring from the national team anytime soon, reaffirming his commitment.

Ayew debuted for the Black Stars in 2007 when the team played a friendly match against Senegal. Since then, he has been an integral part of the team, rising to become the captain until 2024.

The former Marseille player has made 120 appearances for the Black Stars and scored 24 goals.
