    Report/Photos: Boxing Bob Newman

Skylar Thompson’s International Boxing LLC presented “Latino Night” to a sold out crowd at the Riverside Ballroom in Green Bay, WI Saturday night. The main event was Jr. Welterweight scrap between Guadalupe Jimenez and Angel Reyes, for the Wisconsin Jr. Welterweight title, as well as the “BG” title (Blood & Guts), an homage to the Gatti-Ward 140 lb. trilogy.

Guadalupe Jimenez (East Moline, IL) threw down against Angel Reyes (Des Moines, IA, by way of Rio De La Cruz, Mexico) in a scheduled 6-rounder. The battle was indeed rugged, if lacking high skill level, as both men clubbed each other with wide, flailing punches. There were some jabs, hooks and crosses, more so from Reyes. There was indeed some blood and plenty of guts, befitting one of the belts at stake. Jimenez was hurt in the fifth and held on for dear life. Frustrated, Reyes flung his foe across the ring and nearly through the ropes. The rest actually helped Jimenez recover and he survived the round. The sixth and final round was a mauling, brawling 3 minutes, both fighters leaving everything in the ring. In the end, the scores were 58-56 for Jimenez and 57-57 twice, for a majority draw. The Wisconsin and Blood and Guts titles remain vacant!

    Jordan Ellis 2

In the semi-main, Lorenz Jordan (Green Bay, WI) and Robin Ellis (Las Vegas, NV) met in a heated Jr. Lightweight 4-rounder. Jordan towered over Ellis, and used his exceptional reach to great advantage. In the third however, Jordan came in recklessly and got caught with a huge right, almost losing his mouthpiece, fumbling to put it back in. In a wild finish, with seconds to go in the fourth, a frustrated Ellis threw Jordan to the canvas and almost through the ropes. Referee Nelson deducted a point for the infraction. When he waved the action to resume, the bell rang, ending the fight! Scores were: 39-36 twice and 38-37 for the now 6-0, 5 KOs Jordan. Ellis falls to 6-10, 5 KOs.

In the opening bout of the night, it was a reverse case of somebody’s “0” has got to go. Winless Wisconsinites Torin Turner (Racine) and Marcus Parkison (Lomira) met at super middleweight. Torin made quick work of Parkison with three smashing knockdowns, forcing referee Mark Nelson to call it off at 1:24 of the first round. Torin moves to 1-3, while Parkison falls to 0-13.

Heavyweights John Carmona (Fargo, ND) and John Seymour (Sturgeon Bay, WI) just about made it through round one. Carmona had a108 lb. weight advantage on Seymour, but it didn’t help, as Seymour was too fast and precise with his punches. Three knockdowns forced Referee Mark Nelson to wave matters off at 2:59 of the opening stanza. Seymour goes to 2-0, 2 KOs, while Carmona slumps to 0-6.

    Blackowl Reeves 1

Cruiserweights Armondo Reeves (Chicago, IL) and Brad Blackowl (Menominee, WI) clashed in a scheduled 4-rounder. These two went at it toe-to-toe, bringing the crowd to its collective feet for all four rounds. Each man gave as good as he got, leaving nothing in the ring. The judges scored it: 39-37 x 2 and 40-36, all for Blackowl, who moves to 2-1, 1 KO. The hard luck Reeves falls to 4-22-3, 1 KO.

    Metz Hubbert

Rondale Hubbert (Duluth, MN) and Aaron Metz (Griffith, IN) met in a scheduled 6-round welterweight match.
The vastly more experienced Hubbert used his footwork to keep out of harm’s way, forcing Metz to try and cut off the ring. Each man had his moments, Metz pressing forward, Hubbert countering with pot shots. At times, Hubbert seemed to fall into the sparring partner mentality, as if he was there to give Metz some good ring work, which he had the skills to do. In the fourth, Hubbert suddenly found a home for his right hand, repeatedly landing it flush on Metz’ head with some effect. Metz fought back and the crowd loved it. Hubbert had Metz pinned in a neutral corner for much of the fifth, picking his shots while Metz tried to counter, each man having mixed success. In the sixth and final round, Hubbert seemed to get hurt with a hard right and stiffened. Metz tried to capitalize on the moment, but Hubbert hung tough and both men finished swinging at the final bell. Final scores were as follows: 57-57, 58-56 and 59-55 for Metz by majority decision. Metz improves to 6-0, 3 KOs, while Hubbert falls to 16-35-3, 10 KOs.

    Komenakin Jr Chacon 1

Raymond Chacon (Torrance, CA) and Jason Komanekin, Jr. (Menominee, WI) clashed in a scheduled 4 round lightweight bout. The super lanky Komanekin, Jr. carefully stalked his cagey, squat opponent around the ring, making sure to not walk into something big. On several occasions, Komanekin, Jr. managed to land some telling blows, but he couldn’t deliver the finisher, as Chacon was just too experienced and determined to survive. In the final round, Chacon was deducted a point by ref Nelson for holding after being hurt with some big shots. Finals scores were: 40-35 x 3, all for the now 9-0, 5 KOs Komanekin, Jr. Chacon chugs along at 10-68-1, 2 KOs.
