President John Dramani Mahama has tasked Kofi Adams, the newly appointed Minister of Sports and Recreation, with leading a revival of Ghana’s sports sector.

He urged Adams to work tirelessly to restore the country’s lost glory in African and global sports.

Once a powerhouse in African sports, Ghana has struggled in recent years, with disappointing performances dimming its former prestige.

However, the appointment of Adams has sparked renewed hope, especially after he vowed during his vetting to rejuvenate Ghanaian sports.

During Adams’ swearing-in on Friday, February 7, 2025, President Mahama referenced the current challenges facing Ghanaian sports and called on the new minister to work diligently to revitalize the sector.

“I don’t envy your job. You have the monumental task of restoring Ghana to its rightful place in African and world sports. The current state of our sports sector is completely unacceptable for a country with our pedigree. I expect you to bring transparency, professionalism, and modernity to its management,” the president stated.

The president further urged Adams to begin the rebuilding process with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), emphasizing that strengthening football governance would be a crucial first step.

“I expect you to focus on revitalizing all sports disciplines, and I believe the GFA is a good place to start. We must work to return the Black Stars to their glory days,” he added.
