The tragic death of local boxing icon Ernest Akushey AKA Bahubali has cast a deep shadow of grief over his hometown of Chorkor in the Greater Accra Region.
Ernest Akushey AKA Bahubali passed away on the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The 32-year-old boxer died barely two weeks after suffering from heavy punches in a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The street that was once filled with cheers for his fights now echoes with tributes outside his family home, as people share stories of the man the world came to know as Bahubali.

“Jovial, always cracking jokes after training, being around him was like sunshine, it’s never boring,” one resident said.
“It’s sad to hear one morning that someone you joked with, three or two days ago is dead. It’s hard to accept,” a bread vendor in the area noted.
