An emergency situation is unfolding in Sydney‘s inner west as tactical police and paramedics rush to the scene of a shooting.

Residents have been told to stay indoors following the shooting in Croydon Park which is understood to have begun about 7.30pm on Sunday.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told the Daily Mail four patients had received treatment for varying injuries.

A man in his 50s self-presented to Canterbury Hospital with a gunshot wound, the spokesperson said.

Another person was transported from the scene and has been taken to hospital, though the nature and extent of their injuries are not clear.

The spokesperson added a further two people presented themselves to Campsie police station with minor injuries, including abrasions.

Police confirmed operations are ongoing at the scene, where stretches of Georges River Road and Brighton Avenue have been closed to motorists.
