    The Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment-designate, George Opare Addo, has emphasised the critical role the youth play in shaping Ghana’s future.

    Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, he stated that resetting Ghana requires reorienting the minds of the youth to contribute to national development.

    “The Ghana we want requires the active participation of the youth, who constitute a majority of the Ghanaian population. Resetting Ghana means total re-engagement that is reorienting their minds, engaging them and building for all of us the Ghana that we’ll be proud of,” he stated.

    Opare Addo identified youth unemployment as a root cause of societal issues, including violence, and pledged to prioritise job creation and skills development.

    “Violence has no place in the Ghana I want. And so, as minister I am going to work effectively with the relevant agencies, the young people out there, by finding for them sustainable jobs. If we don’t address the challenge of unemployment, we’ll always have these issues of violence always staring at us in the face.

    “If I have a job in the morning and you call me to come anywhere and I’m going to work, there is no way I’ll follow you there. And so, we would tackle aggressively the issue of unemployment, and by doing so, we’ll render skills training. We’ll try and put everybody who is willing and able to work to work so that we’ll be able to change the narrative,” he added.
