Mohammed Salisu says his ‘don’t give up’ mentality has helped him rediscover the form that convinced AS Monaco to sign him from Southampton.

The Ghana international has had a topsy-turvy time at the French club and was relegated to the bench since February.

However, the towering centre-back, who helped Ghana qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, returned to the starting line up in recent weeks, scoring the winner in the Ligue 1 game against Toulouse.

Part of the changes to his form could be attributed to manager Sebastien Pocognoli’s decision to switch his positions at the back.

“Not really, because I’ve already played in this role before, at other clubs,” said Salisu when asked about his new role.

“I’m just fully attentive to what the coach asks of me and I try to apply his instructions. As I said, the start of the season was difficult since I didn’t play much — mentally that was hard since February.

“But I didn’t want to give up. I stayed focused in training so that the team could perform, and now my time has come,” added the former Southampton player.

The 26-year-old has made six appearances across all competitions this season for AS Monaco.
