Red Owl Boxing has announced that its fighter Yadira Bustillos (11-3, 2 KO’s) will square off with former opponent Maria “La Picante” Sol Baumstarh (15-7-1, 8 KO’s) in a rematch for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) interim world minimumweight (105 pounds) championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The fight was ordered by the IBF, which had received a petition for a rematch by Bustillos’s attorney, Tony Palmieri, Esq., who argued on behalf of his fighter’s camp that Bustillos of Las Vegas, Nev. should have been awarded the judges’ decision after the 10-round interim championship bout that also took place in Buenos Aires on June 5 and saw Sol Baumstarh of Brandsen, Buenos Aires walk away with a controversial split decision victory in her home province.
“We are pleased to see that the IBF has taken decisive action and granted a rematch to Yadira Bustillos, who was arguably the victor of the first fight against Maria Sol Baumstarh, and we hope that Yadira will get a fair shake from all officials assigned to work the rematch,” said Red Owl Boxing CEO Greg Bloom.
The first meeting between Bustillos and Sol Baumstarh produced an all-out slugfest, with the Argentinian fighter coming out of the gates blazing and scoring a quick knockdown on Bustillos with a left hook to the chin in the first minute of the second round of battle.
Bustillos bounced back from the knockdown and turned the momentum around shortly after that, working the body of Sol Baumstarh and connecting repeatedly upstairs as the fight went on.
The fast-paced action continued for the majority of the fight with the two repeatedly exchanging shots in close quarters before the final bell rang.
For the 26-year-old Bustillos, who is ranked number five in the world in the 105-pound division, the bout with Sol Baumstarh was the American’s second title fight after dropping a majority decision to Yokasta Valle in a fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) world minimumweight championship in December 19.
Prior to the bout against Valle, Bustillos had won four straight fights, two by knockout.
Red Owl Boxing’s next live television event, ‘Boxfest XXII’, will take place at The 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Friday, Nov. 13, separately from the Sol Baumstarh-Bustillos championship rematch that is being promoted by OR Promotions.
“Red Owl Boxing Presents Boxfest XXII” will be headlined by a National Boxing Association (NBA) Americas middleweight (160 pounds) title fight between undefeated Erron “Junkyard Dog” Peterson (15-0-1, 14 KO’s ) of Philadelphia and fellow knockout artist Miguel Angel Hernandez (9-1-1, 7 KO’s) of Dallas, Texas.
The ‘Boxfest XXII’ main card will stream live on DAZN, beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, and the preliminary bout card will stream live on Red Owl Boxing’s YouTube channel, beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
