Former Asante Kotoko board chairman Herbert Mensah has pointed to the constant recycling of personnel as a significant challenge for sports in Ghana.

The current president of Rugby Africa believes that instead of rotating individuals between various committees, they should be removed from the system entirely.

Drawing on his extensive experience in football, Mensah highlighted incidents from his time in the sport to support his view.

“I think the problem with sports, and it’s not just football, is there’s a constant recycling of the same kind of material. I mean, I’ve been in it, so I kind of get it. I’m not speaking abstract. I’m talking in reality,” he told Joy News.

“And in order to make it in previous days, you’ve got to clear out. You become Mr. Unpopular. But you’ve got to make a stronger stance in deciding if somebody who was on a welfare committee or something and is now on this committee.

“So you’re recharging. And when I was involved in football, I was just amazed that it was a situation of musical chairs, of people going around, you know, and coming to.”

After many years working in football, including serving as Asante Kotoko board chairman between 1999 and 2003, Mensah has transitioned out of football and is now working as a rugby administrator.
