    Record 8,778 referrals were made to government’s anti-extremism scheme Prevent in the last year – up 27% on the previous 12 months

    There were a record 8,778 referrals to the Government’s anti-extremism scheme Prevent in the last year, a rise of 27 per cent.

    Children aged 11 to 15 made up 36 per cent of referrals, making them the largest age group. 

    Overall, extreme right-wing concerns accounted for 1,798 (21 per cent) of referrals, compared to 10 per cent relating to Islamic extremism.
