Former Real Madrid defender Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior, known as Marcelo, has officially retired from football at age 36.

The former Brazil international announced his retirement in an emotional video, bidding farewell to the sport and sharing memories from his playing years.

“At 18, Real Madrid knocked on my door, and I arrived here. Now, I can proudly say that I am a true Madrileño,” Marcelo said in a video on his social media.

“Sixteen seasons, 25 titles, five Champions Leagues, one of the captains, and so many magical nights at the Bernabéu. What a journey!

“My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give to football. Thank you for everything.”

Marcelo is one of the most decorated players in football history, winning 31 trophies and cementing his legacy as one of the greatest left-backs ever.

He made 721 appearances, scoring 58 goals and providing 117 assists while playing for four clubs during his 19-year professional career.

He played for Fluminense, Real Madrid, and Olympiacos before returning to Fluminense.

His time at Real Madrid was the most memorable spell of his career, where he established himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe, winning 25 titles in 15 years at the club.
