A TV star was stunned when her mortgage broker mistook her for a sex worker as she applied for a multi-million dollar home loan, before then warning her the application would be rejected.
The broker told Bondi Vet owner Dr Kate Adams her loan bid would be thrown out by the banks because lenders don’t count selling X-rated content on OnlyFans as a job.
‘Without even asking my name, he just heard I wanted $3.5million and that’s where his mind went,’ Dr Adams told the Daily Mail.
‘His exact words were, “I’m really sorry, but the bank will not loan any money to any woman who takes her clothes off on the internet.”
‘I didn’t want to tell him that I’m a doctor, who trained for seven years and is a self-made business owner and not on OnlyFans, because I’m like, wow, you’re a c***.’
Shocked by the outrageous suggestion, Dr Adams, who owns Bondi Vet Hospital and also stars in the reality TV show The Real Housewives of Sydney, decided to string the broker along.
‘So I said to him, “What’s wrong with OnlyFans?”,” she added. ‘Money’s money.
‘And he said, “It’s just the way it is”.’

Dr Adams had already put down a large deposit on her luxurious new property before she asked a friend for advice on securing finance for the remainder.
‘In my true style, I thought I’ll sort that s*** out later,’ she said. ‘So I paid the deposit and was like, s***, I’ve got to go find a broker to get a loan.
‘I got a recommendation from a friend.’
She explained she cold-called the man without any formal introduction which is when the conversation took the unexpected turn.
‘He doesn’t know me from a bar of soap,’ she said.
‘And so I call him and say, hey, Mr Broker Guy, I was wondering if I could borrow some money and you might be able to help me with that.
‘He says, “Absolutely!”, and asks me how much. It was a large figure, by the way.
‘Then this silence on the phone. He says, before we go down this path, I need to tell you that the bank will not consider income that is made from OnlyFans. Wow.
‘The subconscious misogyny is at an all-time f***ing high at this point.
‘I’m like, this guy thinks that I’m on OnlyFans and he thinks the only way women can actually make a crust in this world is if they’re on OnlyFans.’
Dr Adams said the conversation made her question the entire industry.

Dr Adams took to social media to share her experience with the broker

Dr Adams has previously shared glimpses of her luxurious home
‘This is coming from the lowest of the low finance bros. Imagine what the top end of town is like.’
Dr Adams eventually revealed her true identity and said that making him squirm was worth it.
‘So I say to him, “Well, isn’t it lucky that I’m not on OnlyFans? I’m sorry, I don’t think I introduced myself. I’m Dr Kate Adams.”
‘I had a lot of joy in that moment. He s*** himself and rightly so.’
But for her, the problem went far beyond her own experience.
‘What if I wasn’t Dr Kate Adams?’ she asked. ‘What if I was just some other person that had earned money not on OnlyFans?
‘There are plenty of women out there with great jobs who are not earning money on OnlyFans and didn’t only get their money from the one place that apparently men think we can get money.
‘And what is wrong with OnlyFans anyway? Money is money.’

Dr Adams had already paid a hefty deposit on the property
She said that as a self-made businesswoman she has always been proud of her achievements.
But she said banks often ‘invalidate’ industries where women work, leaving them locked out of financial independence.
‘The bank could argue that, you know what, this whole women taking their clothes off thing, it’s an unreliable industry,’ she said.
‘But in reality it’s the oldest industry in the world and women are still judged for doing it but men are not judged for funding it.
‘The system is set up so men do not have to explain themselves. And all the data and all of the studies that have been done on this support this.
‘Banks routinely use brokers to withhold money and withhold loans to women in this country.
‘I don’t hear men, when they speak to a broker, get asked, “Are you on OnlyFans or how much are you spending on it?”‘
Mortgage broker Grace Bowe, from Coast Home Loans, said she was not surprised by Dr Adams’ experience and agreed the industry remains plagued by sexism.
‘That other broker sounds like a totally obnoxious d*** and is such a part of the problem with the broking industry being so male dominated,’ she told Daily Mail.

‘I’ve lost count of how many clients have told me how refreshing it is not to be mansplained to and patronised when they come to talk money with me.
‘A broker’s job is to be solution-orientated, and to be our client’s advocate to the bank to make the compelling case as to why they’d be a good bank client.’
She explained that while some banks may have restrictions on certain industries, it is a broker’s job to find a way through.
‘At the end of the day, OnlyFans income is self-employed income,’ Ms Bowe said.
‘For it to count, it needs to be on their tax return but some banks would have a problem with the industry code.
‘All earnings on tax returns are classified under various tax industry codes and some banks don’t lend to particular codes.
‘The OnlyFans industry code would be adult entertainment, in which case some banks will have a problem with it, but definitely not all banks.’
