Rayo Vallecano have begun discussions with Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin over a potential contract extension, aiming to secure his long-term future at the club.

The 26-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season, leaving him with just one year remaining—a situation the Spanish side is keen to resolve quickly.

According to sources close to the player’s camp, Rayo have offered Mumin a new three-year contract that would keep him at the Estadio de Vallecas until at least June 2029.

The proposed deal reportedly includes improved financial terms, reflecting his importance to the team’s defensive setup under head coach Iñigo Pérez.

“They (Rayo Vallecano) want to extend his (Mumin’s) contract early, before he enters his final year, for three more years,” a high-ranking source from Mumin’s representatives disclosed.

“He will be in his final year next season and will be able to negotiate with other clubs, so they don’t want those scenarios.”

The Spanish club views Mumin as a key figure in their backline and is eager to avoid a situation where the defender enters the final year of his contract without a commitment to stay.
