Embattled Rachel Reeves has been the subject of a series of damning scoops from this newspaper since moving into Downing Street.

It was the Daily Mail that exclusively revealed last month that the Chancellor broke the law by renting out her family home without a licence while living at No11.

Our reporters have also covered claims she plagiarised parts of her book from Wikipedia, lied on her LinkedIn CV and highlighted every shambolic U-turn in her Budget.

But despite the likelihood she will come across another embarrassing story about her daughter, Ms Reeves’ mother Sally remains an avid Daily Mail reader and subscriber.

Ms Reeves told The Times her mum enjoys the Mail’s puzzles and quizzes, but was ‘very angry’ with the paper given recent coverage about her – but not angry enough to stop buying a daily copy.

When asked if Sally would cancel her subscription, Ms Reeves said: ‘That’s what we’re hoping, but at the moment she just hides copies of it when we go round.’

The Chancellor’s sister Ellie Reeves is also a leading Labour light serving as an MP and the current Solicitor General.

A YouGov poll indicates Rachel Reeves is trusted on the economy by just 14 per cent of voters.

Despite this, she insists she has had enough advice on how to do her job, saying: ‘I’m sick of people mansplaining how to be chancellor.’
