Accra, Ghana – November 9, 2025 — In a remarkable testament to her leadership and impact in African sports, Rachel Ankomah, Founder of Accra Majestics Sports Academy, Director of Corporate Communications for the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Women’s Representative for the Greater Accra Rugby Association, and Sports Development Officer with the National Sports Authority, has been named among the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports for 2025, an honor presented by the Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG).

This prestigious recognition celebrates 50 exceptional women shaping the future of sports across Africa and the diaspora — from athletes and administrators to coaches, executives, and change-makers. The announcement, made on November 8, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, places Rachel among an elite group of leaders including Olympic champions, federation presidents, and global sports executives.

    A Trailblazer in Ghanaian Rugby

Rachel Ankomah’s journey in sports leadership has been defined by purpose, passion, and resilience. Known as the “First Lady of Rugby League in Ghana,” Rachel has built a formidable legacy in sports development and advocacy. Through Accra Majestics Sports Academy, she has created opportunities for young people — particularly girls — to access structured training, education, and mentorship in rugby and other sports disciplines.

Her dedication to empowering women in sports extends beyond the field. As a communication strategist and advocate, Rachel has consistently used her voice to challenge stereotypes, promote inclusivity, and inspire young women to lead with confidence in spaces traditionally dominated by men.

Driving Visibility and Inclusion Across Africa

In her role as Director of Corporate Communications at the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Rachel has led transformational initiatives to elevate the image of rugby, foster stakeholder partnerships, and spotlight the achievements of Ghanaian athletes on the continental stage. Her work has not only strengthened the brand of Ghana Rugby but also positioned it as a model for storytelling and community-driven sports development in Africa.

Her inclusion in ASVG’s 2025 Honoree list highlights her influence as part of a new generation of African sports leaders — those who are not only building institutions but also changing narratives.

Inspiring Change Through Vision and Leadership

Speaking on her recognition, Rachel expressed gratitude and renewed commitment to the advancement of women in sports across the continent.

“This recognition is not just about me — it’s about every woman who dares to lead, every young girl who dreams of breaking barriers, and every community that believes in the power of sports to transform lives. Africa’s sporting future is female, and together, we are shaping it.”

Her story continues to inspire countless young women who see in her the courage to rise, the resilience to persist, and the heart to serve.

    Looking Toward a Brighter Future

The Africa Sports Ventures Group will host the 2026 edition of the Awards in Dakar, Senegal, alongside the Youth Olympic Games — a fitting stage to celebrate the extraordinary women redefining Africa’s sports landscape.

Rachel Ankomah’s inclusion in this year’s list cements her place among the continent’s most influential figures in sports, affirming her role as a symbol of hope, leadership, and transformation.
