Rescue services in India have been working tirelessly to rescue a toddler who has been trapped underground for five days after falling down a well.

Three-year-old Chetna plunged 150 feet down a 700ft well on Monday in the Indian village of Kotputli in Rajasthan.

The young girl, who has spent more than 90 hours without food or water, is said to be very weak and unable to move.

Meanwhile emergency workers have been racing against time to get Chetna out of the well as they monitor her via video camera and supply her with oxygen through a pipe.

Manual excavations have been carried out for the last three days to try to free the young girl, according to local press.

Rescuers have attempted different techniques to reach the girl but so far none have been effective.

District Collector Kalpana Aggarwal said rescue teams have been digging up pits to then dig horizontally from below to reach the trapped girl.

A pile-driving machine was brought to the site on Wednesday to dig the tunnel, and an 100-tonne crane was dispatched today to speed up the process.

Another clip shows how villagers nervously surround the site as they await news of Chetna’s rescue.

But continuous rainfall has hindered rescue operations, Indian outlet Free Press Journal reports, as it has been preventing rescue teams from descending into the well to reach Chetna.

Waterproof tents are being set up so that the well is safely covered, while a first aid team is stationed next to the borehole to provide medical attention when needed.

A plan is already in place to transfer Chetna to nearby Kotputli hospital as soon as she is rescued.

Meanwhile, the young girl’s family is said to be anxiously awaiting news of her rescue, but her distressed mother’s health has reportedly deteriorated as a result of the ongoing situation.

It comes after a man plunged 50 feet inside a well in Georgia, US, while looking for his cell phone.

The unnamed man was trapped for eight hours as rescuers battled to save him.

The father disappeared after venturing out into the woodland in Cobb County to try and retrieve his lost phone.

A major rescue mission was launched with multiple teams scrambled to the scene.

Rescuers followed the sound of the trapped man’s cries and located him inside the structure.

Dramatic video showed the moment the man was winched out of the well using ropes and a bipod. Miraculously, he was alive and conscious amid the rescue.

He was then transferred to a stretcher and raced to the hospital. He is expected to make a recovery.
