Businessman Seidu Agongo has wondered if the wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta would vote for her husband if he were put on a ballot for an election.

Advising politicians to use their positions for public good, Mr Agongo told Metro TV in a recent interview that, unlike President John Mahama, who used his various political portfolios to serve Ghanaians well, Mr Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister left much to be desired.

“Political position can make and unmake you,” Mr Agongo noted, pointing out: “His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is the president today because he had a political position and he served the people well.”

On the other hand, he said: “Ken Ofori-Atta had a political position but today, if his face is on the ballot paper, I’m wondering if even his wife, Angela, would vote for him, so, once you’ve been given the position as a minister, you have do your best.”

Mr Agongo, who lost his bank, Heritage Bank, under the Akufo-Addo administration with Mr Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister, advised political appointees: “Don’t forget those who made you who you are. Don’t forget those who voted for you because it can become the end of you or it can become the best of you.”

Also, he urged: “Don’t make yourself different because today you are a minister, CEO.”

Rather, he encouraged them to “try to see how you can bring all involved and be able to manage yourself to the next level of life, but if you make yourself different, trust me, you are ending your political career.”
