Black Starlets coach Prosper Narteh Ogum remains confident they can bounce back strongly when they face Senegal in a crucial Group D clash at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana heads into the game after surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Algeria in their opening fixture at the Mohammed VI Football Academy.

The Black Starlets made a dream start after Robinho Yao Gavi scored just three minutes after kickoff before Eric Adu Gyamfi added a stunning second goal eight minutes later.

However, Algeria fought back strongly in the second half as Adam Benail and Melwane Zaidi scored within three minutes to level the game. Algeria also missed a late penalty after Ilyes Grini failed to convert from the spot.

Ahead of the important encounter against Senegal, the enterprising gaffer admitted his side respects the quality of the defending champions but believes Ghana has what it takes to secure victory.

“Senegal is a very good team, and we respect them because they have shown quality over the years at this level. But we also believe strongly in ourselves and what we can do as a team,” he said.

The former Asante Kotoko trainer also emphasized that the Starlets are fully focused on winning the game to boost their qualification hopes.

“We are going into the game targeting a win. The players understand the importance of the match, and they are ready to give everything on the pitch. I am convinced the boys will live up to expectations,” he added.

The game is slated for 16:00GMT (4:00pm)
