Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, has disclosed that the push to extend the presidential term came from clubs and other member bodies, not the association itself.

This follows the submission of a proposal by the GFA’s Statute Review Committee to increase the presidential term from two to three terms ahead of the 31st Ordinary Congress scheduled for August 12, 2025, at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Addressing speculation that the proposal was designed to favour current GFA president Kurt Okraku’s bid for a third term, Harrison Addo clarified on Asempa FM that the initiative originated from clubs, the Regional Associations’ Group (RAG) leadership, and other congress members.

“The decision to extend the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential term in office was proposed by clubs, RAG leadership, and other bodies that are all members of congress, he said.

“The decision was not made by GFA, and this proposal to extend the mandate of the president was made three years ago,” he added.

The final decision on whether Congress will approve the term extension remains pending as the August meeting approaches
