The CEO of popular UK-based event organising company, Akwaaba UK, Dennis Tawiah, has urged media platforms in Ghana to promote songs with positive lyrics and themes.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb on X Spaces on July 18, 2025, Tawiah addressed the negative publicity surrounding hardworking artistes and other stakeholders in the music industry, especially in the media.

He added that such platforms tend to champion senseless songs, citing instances where artistes singing incoherent music are embraced by the media over truly talented musicians.

“The media has a role to play in all this. The media tends to project music that would not take us anywhere.

“Recently, on one Ghanaian platform, one artiste was spitting some bars that did not make sense, and they picked it up and were making a big deal out of it. I was like, ‘Hold on a minute, there’s better music out there. This guy is just like a comedian?’ Yet, everyone was hyping him like he had done something creative,” he said.

He challenged media stakeholders to reconsider the kind of content they promote and focus on promoting positive music.

“You have a big platform; let’s promote good music. Let’s promote positive music. Let’s put the rubbish music aside,” he said.

Tawiah’s plea comes amid what some have termed the glorification of low-quality tracks, which they say undermines Ghana’s cultural brand and fails to support hardworking artistes.

As CEO of one of the premier Ghanaian music promoters abroad, Tawiah has long advocated for unity among artistes, the media, and event organisers to propel Ghanaian music onto the global stage.
