Former Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, Prof Raymond Atuguba, is reportedly set to be appointed as the Director of the Ghana School of Law and Legal Education.
This follows reports of the termination of the appointment of Justice Nana Yaw Oppong, who has been Director of the Ghana School of Law and Legal Education for the past four years, by the General Legal Council.
According to a report by thelawplatform.online, the termination will see him end his tenure abruptly on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Director of Ghana Law School sacked
Another report by the media house indicated that Prof Atuguba will take over from Justice Yaw Oppong as the Director of the law school, barring any last-minute changes.
The report indicated that the appointment of Prof Atuguba, who is “respected for his reformist and innovative leadership in legal education, legal academia, and legal practice,” will be done before the start of the new Legal Year and enrolment of new lawyers in October 2025.
The Law Platform indicated that its source, privy to discussions on the appointment, has said that Prof Atuguba will be getting the job ahead of Prof Kofi Abotsi, the Dean of the University of Professional Studies School of Law.

Prof Atuguba previously worked as the Executive Secretary to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, during his first term in office.
He holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, a Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard Law School, a Barrister-at-Law (BL) from the Ghana School of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the University of Ghana.
