Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in driving Ghana’s economic transformation through innovative research.
During a recent meeting with CSIR leadership, led by Director-General Prof. Paul Pinnock Bosu, the Vice President commended the institution’s groundbreaking work, acknowledging Ghana’s reservoir of expertise and knowledge.
“We have researchers who can help solve the most pressing national challenges, from agriculture and food security to health, industry, and climate resilience,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said, emphasizing the need for CSIR to amplify its impact.
She encouraged the institution to forge closer ties with government, boldly articulate its findings, and increase its visibility through exhibitions, public engagement, and policy support.
The Vice President’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to harnessing science, technology, and innovation for national development. CSIR, established under Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah with 13 specialized institutes nationwide, has been instrumental in driving Ghana’s research agenda. The institution expressed gratitude for government support, including the operationalization of the Ghana Research Fund and international collaborations like the World Food Programme engagement.
“We need research that answers real problems, and CSIR is well-placed to lead that effort,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declared, pledging deeper collaboration to propel Ghana’s development agenda.
