Sports journalist Muftawu Abdulai Nabila has claimed that the incoming NDC government is considering several sports personalities for the role of Minister of Sports.

According to Nabila, one of the individuals under consideration is Prof. Francis Dodoo, the former President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA).

Currently serving as the Head of Governance at World Athletics, Prof. Dodoo’s vast experience is said to make him a strong contender for the position.

Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), is also reportedly being considered for the same role.

“Former President of the Ghana Athletics Association and Ghana Olympic Committee, Prof. Francis Dodoo, who currently serves as the Head of Governance at World Athletics, has been earmarked as Sports Minister. The other person I understand is being considered is GOC boss, Ben Nunoo Mensah,” Nabila wrote on X.

Meanwhile, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has formed a transition team to ensure a smooth handover from the incumbent government.

It remains to be seen whether any of these individuals will be appointed, as Mahama has yet to announce his appointees ahead of his inauguration on January 7, 2024.

Mustapha Ussif, the current Minister of Youth and Sports, is faced with uncertainty following the change in government.
