The President of the Ghana Esports Federation, Igbor Boumekpo, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to build a National Esports Arena to support the sector.

According to him, Esports is an emerging sporting activity in the country that needs support in terms of infrastructure.

The Esports Federation president noted that aside from the national arena, similar facilities should be built in other regions to enable people to train and groom more talents to compete for the nation.

Speaking in an interview with Benjamin Sackey on GhanaWeb TV, Boumekpo noted that the arena would not be used solely for entertainment but also to educate gamers.

“Our appeal to the authorities is for them to have mercy on us. There are about 45 or 46 sporting activities, and they should just give us one percent of their attention, and we will do the best. Our appeal to them is to help us build the National Esports Arena. Even if we cannot have it in all regions, at least two regions should have one where we can go every day to train and educate.

“Esports is not only about gaming; it’s also for educational purposes. Through Esports, people have become commentators, marketers, graphic designers, etc. If we have a national arena, tech institutions and digital experts will be part of us. This is a significant opportunity we’re looking at, and we believe the government will listen to us. We appeal to His Excellency, the President of the Republic, NSA boss Yaw Ampofo, and sports minister Kofi Adams to support us with this,” he said.
