President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to develop a Green Digital City in Ghana as part of his administration’s long-term strategy to promote sustainable urban growth and advance digital innovation.

Speaking at a Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing, China, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, President Mahama announced that an inter-ministerial committee would soon be inaugurated to conduct feasibility studies and oversee the project’s design.

He also said a transaction advisor would be appointed to spearhead implementation.

“As part of Ghana’s transformation, we plan to establish a new green city spanning the Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern regions. I will soon inaugurate an inter-ministerial committee to guide the design and feasibility study of this city. A transaction advisor will also be appointed to lead the implementation process.

“This will be a green, digital city showcasing cutting-edge technology in urban design, planning, and innovation. The project is planned as a 20-year initiative, to be executed in four phases, with the first phase expected to commence before my tenure ends. I invite our Chinese colleagues to be part of this important project,” he stated.

President Mahama emphasised that the initiative would roll out in four phases over 20 years, with the first phase beginning before the conclusion of his term.
