President John Dramani Mahama has directed an immediate audit of revenue collections at Tema Port.

He cited concerns over declining government earnings despite rising cargo volumes as the reason for the audit.

Speaking during a visit by the leadership of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) at Jubilee House on Friday, July 11, 2025, the President described the situation as troubling.

“There has been a considerable increase in cargo volumes, which should have compensated for any shortfalls. Instead, we are seeing a reduction,” President Mahama stated.

He disclosed that the Minister of Transport and his team have been tasked with investigating the issue to identify the underlying causes of the revenue drop.

Despite the setback, President Mahama reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborate with GIFF to successfully implement the 24-Hour Economy Policy.

He noted that the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has already begun operationalizing the policy at key ports nationwide.
