The 77th Annual New Year School and Conference of the University of Ghana has officially commenced, drawing policymakers, academics, and development stakeholders to discuss Ghana’s development trajectory.

Ahead of the opening ceremony at the Great Hall, President John Dramani Mahama was received by the Chair of the University Council, Madam Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo.

Delivering the opening address, President Mahama reflected on the theme, “Building the Ghana We Want, Together,” highlighting the need for inclusive growth, national cohesion, and sustainable development. He stressed that Ghana’s development agenda must be driven by collective effort, underscoring unity, shared responsibility, and long-term planning as key tools for addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges.

The Annual New Year School and Conference remains a flagship academic tradition of the University of Ghana, providing a platform for informed national dialogue. Discussions from the conference are expected to contribute to policy formulation and strengthen collaboration among key actors working toward Ghana’s national development goals.
