    President Mahama extends IGP Yohuno’s tenure by 2 years

    President John Dramani Mahama has formally confirmed the re-engagement of Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for an additional two-year term ahead of his statutory retirement in December 2025.

    This was contained in a letter dated November 25, 2025, and signed by Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama.

    Yohuno’s Appointment: Retirement knocks at the door of IGP, but what’s next?

    According to the letter, the re-engagement takes effect from December 28, 2025.

    “Your re-engagement takes effect from December 28, 2025. During this period, you shall continue to serve as the Inspector-General of Police and discharge the duties and responsibilities attached to the office,” it noted.

    The letter further stated that the decision was based on the Police Council’s confidence in the IGP’s leadership, describing it as critical to ongoing reforms and operational stability within the service.

    Police Council seeks 2-year contract extension for IGP Yohuno

    “The President’s decision reflects the Council’s firm conviction that your continued leadership is essential to sustaining ongoing reforms, strengthening operational effectiveness, and ensuring stability within the Ghana Police Service at this critical period,” it noted.

    The IGP has been directed to confirm his acceptance of the extension within three days of receiving the communication.

    “You are kindly requested to indicate your acceptance of this re-engagement in writing within three days upon receipt of this letter,” it added.
