President John Dramani Mahama has donated GH¢50,000 each to Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars ahead of their participation in the 2025/2026 CAF Inter-Club competitions.

The presentation took place at Jubilee House in the presence of the Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, and other officials from both clubs.

The funds are intended to support the clubs’ preparations for their respective campaigns in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

In the Champions League, Bibiani Gold Stars will face Algerian side JS Kabylie in the first preliminary round of their maiden continental appearance.

President Mahama urged to build National Esports Arena

The Bibiani-based club will host the first leg in Ghana on September 20, 2025, before traveling to Algeria for the return fixture between September 26 and 28, 2025.

If they advance, Gold Stars will meet either East End Lions of Sierra Leone or Tunisia’s US Monastir in the second preliminary round.

The two sides will first contest their opening-round tie to determine who progresses.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Asante Kotoko will face Nigerian side Kwara United in their first preliminary match on September 21, 2025, before traveling to Nigeria for the second leg between September 26 and 28, 2025. Should they progress, they will face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in October 2025.

The Porcupine Warriors are making their first appearance in the Confederation Cup since 2022, after struggling to maintain top form in recent seasons.

Both Gold Stars and Kotoko will be aiming to make the nation proud by advancing beyond the group stage and potentially ending Ghana’s long wait for a continental trophy.
