President John Dramani Mahama has extended profound gratitude to residents of the Adansi community in the Ashanti Region for their bravery in retrieving bodies from last week’s tragic military helicopter crash in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve.

The accident, which claimed the lives of eight top government officials including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed left the nation in shock and mourning.

In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, leading a government delegation on behalf of the President, presented GH¢100,000 to the rescuers. The Adansi Traditional Council also received GH¢20,000 to support the performance of traditional rites for the departed.

“As the President has asked me to say, we are here to thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did,” Mr. Nketiah said.

The government further promised employment opportunities for the 13 young men who risked their lives to recover the bodies. In addition, President Mahama pledged to rehabilitate community roads in recognition of the sacrifice and resilience shown by the people of Adansi.

The heroic efforts of the community not only brought closure to grieving families but also highlighted the spirit of unity and patriotism in times of national tragedy.
