President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the 68th Ordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The President will join fellow West African leaders at the Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This year’s summit will feature a Special Debate on the Future of the ECOWAS Community, providing a platform for leaders to reflect on the bloc’s direction amid evolving political, security and economic challenges in the sub-region.

President Mahama is expected to participate in a closed-door session focusing on the strategic outlook of ECOWAS, regional security, political stability and deeper economic integration.

Key items on the summit agenda include pronouncements on the future of the ECOWAS Community, the presentation of the 2025 Annual Report on the State of the Community, and briefings on regional security developments, ongoing mediation efforts and the political transition process in Guinea.

Leaders will also review the implementation of the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) as part of efforts to boost intra-regional trade.

The summit will conclude with the adoption of a final communiqué, followed by a joint press conference by ECOWAS leaders.
