Over one million Ghanaian youth have secured sustainable employment within the first two quarters of 2025, reducing the high rate of youth unemployment in the country.

This was disclosed by President John Dramani Mahama during the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Friday, February 27, 2026.

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), on December 19, 2025, announced that employment in the country increased by about 333,000 between the first and third quarters of 2025.

The Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, disclosed that in the first three quarters of the year, more than 15 million persons constituted the labour force, with an employment rate of 87 percent recorded consistently in each quarter.

According to President Mahama, this achievement is the result of his government’s job creation policies, designed to stimulate economic growth and create opportunities across key sectors of the economy.

He said policies focused on agriculture, infrastructure, and SME-led businesses have contributed significantly to the current employment rate.

“Over one million Ghanaians gained employment within the first two quarters of 2025. These numbers demonstrate that our policies are beginning to yield tangible benefits for households and young people across the country,” he said.

He further noted that while progress has been made, the government remains committed to expanding opportunities, particularly for the youth, through sustained investment and private sector partnerships.
