The portrait of Kudus by the Premier League The portrait of Kudus by the Premier League

In a powerful fusion of art and sport, the Premier League has unveiled a captivating painting of Ghanaian football star Kudus Mohammed, a tribute to his journey, his discipline, and the cultural vibrancy that shaped him.

Commissioned as part of the league’s Black History Month celebrations, the artwork was created by British-Kenyan artist Benjamin Wachenje, whose work often explores identity, heritage and excellence.

But this project carried something deeper, a story that began in the bustling streets of Accra, Ghana’s capital, and found its way onto one of football’s grandest stages.

Otto Addo opens up about his meeting with Mikel Arteta

Wachenje, who has been in Accra before, said he was struck by the city’s colors, energy and rhythm, a place where beauty and chaos coexist in harmony.

He captured this duality in his painting, using an abstract background inspired by the vibrancy of Accra.

From this energetic landscape emerges a refined portrait of Kudus, calm yet powerful, his expression echoing focus and resilience.

The symbolism runs deep. Kudus’s journey mirrors the art itself, from the rugged pitches of Nima, where he honed his raw talent, to the disciplined environment of the Right to Dream Academy, and finally to the bright lights of the Premier League.

Each stage demanded a balance between instinct and control, passion and patience, the very tension Wachenje captured through brush and color.

At its heart, the painting celebrates discipline as the bridge between talent and greatness. Kudus, now dazzling for Tottenham Hotspur, embodies that message, proof that dedication can transform potential into something extraordinary.

For the Premier League, the project is more than just a portrait. It’s part of a broader effort to honor Black excellence and the diverse stories that enrich the game.

Through Kudus’s image, the league celebrates not only a footballer’s rise but also the communities, cultures, and values that propelled him forward.
