The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Minister for Communication, Sam Nartey George, has raised alarm over persistent power and water supply challenges that threaten industrial expansion, calling for urgent measures to safeguard local manufacturing.

He made the remarks during the opening of the B5 Plus Limited Steel Ball Mill and Section Mill at Ningo in the Greater Accra Region, where he underscored the critical role of reliable electricity in driving sustained industrial growth and advancing Ghana’s import substitution agenda.

According to George, stable and credible power supply remains a fundamental requirement for manufacturers seeking to scale up production and reduce reliance on imports.

He expressed confidence in the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, to ensure improved electricity delivery to support the expansion of industries within the enclave.

Beyond electricity, the Ningo-Prampram MP identified water supply as another essential input for steel production, stressing that uninterrupted access to water is vital for operational efficiency and long-term viability.

On the policy front, George called for a more favourable taxation regime to bolster the government’s import substitution drive.

He urged stronger coordination between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Finance to create a supportive fiscal environment that keeps local manufacturers competitive while helping to conserve foreign exchange.

He maintained that addressing these structural constraints would not only strengthen domestic production capacity but also position Ghanaian industries to play a more central role in the country’s economic transformation.
