The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced the restoration of power to several areas in Accra after a major outage caused by a fire at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point.

According to Mary Eshun, Public Relations Officer for ECG’s Accra East Region, the incident occurred when one of the earthing transformers at the Achimota substation unexpectedly caught fire.

This resulted in widespread power outages across various parts of the city over the month of April.

Images released by ECG showed the charred remains of the affected transformer, highlighting the extent of the damage.

Eshun confirmed that electricity supply has been restored to the affected areas, including Abelemkpe.

“Supply restored to all affected customers,” she told Ghanaweb on May 4, 2025.

She assured the public that ECG is working diligently to ensure the stability of power supply and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
